Born in Kyoto, young Japanese pianist Madoka Fukami is acclaimed throughout her concerts for her deep musical sensitivity, clear and colourful sound, and her enthusiastic emotions from within. 

In 2021, she was revealed to a wide audience when she performed as a soloist in “Theme and Variations” concerto by Yoritsune Matsudaira, with the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra for the NHK television. Madoka is passionate about French music and contemporary music. 

Her passion led her to make remarkable experiences such as: laureate of international competitions, notably the 5th prize and Prize for the best interpretation of Maurice Ravel at the prestigious Long-Thibaud-Crespin Competition in 2015, finalist and contemporary music prize at the Busoni competition in 2017 and her recital of the complete twelve studies by Claude Debussy broadcast by France Musique(French national radio). In Tokyo, Yamaha organised a series of recitals in which she performed Claude Debussy’s complete piano works. Her 2 CDs: Debussy 12 studies / Ravel Miroirs and VIRTUOSO were released under the label Passavant Music with great success.

Madoka has performed as a soloist in many renowned theatres such as the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, Salle Gaveau, Bozar Henry Le Boeuf, Porto Casa Da Musica, Flagey, in festivals including “Festival Chopin à Bagatelle”, “Interlaken Classics”, “Chopin au Jardin du Luxembourg”, “Les Pianos Folies du Touquet”, “Les Journées Ravel”, “Flagey Piano Days”, and also as a soloist by many orchestras in Japan and Europe, including the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, the Kansai Philharmonic Orchestra, the Royal Chamber Orchestra of Wallonia, the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Porto and the Paris Chamber Orchestra.


Madoka was unanimously awarded the masters degree at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, as well as the higher concertiste diploma at the Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris. She was a resident soloist at La Chapelle Musicale Reine Elisabeth in Belgium.

In parallel with her passion for French music, Madoka presents original programs, such as works by Bach, Lully, Jadin, Boely, Montgelout, Koechlin, Aubert, Samazeuilh or today’s composers including Hersant, Pesson, Leroux, Tanguy, Mantovani, Ichiyanagi, Ikebe, Nishimura, Hosokawa, Sakai, Sakata…
She has collaborated with many composers which led to her premiering their works, she has also created several shows mixing with other arts such as “Noh” or scenic lighting. In 2020, she created an art show with painter Makoto Ofune and composer Naoki Sakata, “Depth of Light”. In recent years, she has performed with Klangforum Wien and Izumi Sinfonietta Osaka.

Thanks to her strong interest in presenting contemporary French composers in Japan, and vice versa, she will make several projects in 2024 with pieces by Hiromichi Kitazumé, Naoki Sakata, Toshio Hosokawa, Akira Nishimura, Shinichiro Ikebe, Philippe Hersant, Eric Tanguy, Camille Pépin, Philippe Hattat, and Matthieu Acar.
